Posted second beta
Published November 19, 2006
I sent the second beta of v4.0 to the testers yesterday. If you are a licensed skEdit user and would like to receive the betas, please let me know via the contact page. This beta was to address the more common livability issues with the first beta.
As you may have noticed, v3.7 has become v4.0 given the magnitude of the changes. It's going to be a pretty sweet release.
Hi Sean,
Could I grab a beta copy please?
Kind Regards,
Robin
Robin Morgan on November 20, 2006 #Hi Sean,
I asked you for a copy using the contact page but I'm not sure if I saw the success email sent page.
Anyway, if I'd be very happy to test the latest copy of the beta.
Thanks !
Ben.
Benjamin David on November 20, 2006 #Hi Sean,
I send you a beta request last week (contact page), but I didn't get a sign of life by you.
SoIi choose this way to say:
Could I get a beta copy please? :-D

Dennis Rochel on November 27, 2006 #i'm also in the same boat, i sent you an email and a contact page mail. could i also get the beta. thanks
bradley griffiths on November 27, 2006 #I was visiting my family for Thanksgiving, so was only processing critical email. I should get to the (many) beta requests soon. Sorry for the delay.
Sean Kelly on November 27, 2006 #Hey -- just a quick bug report. *Every* time I try to open a project or file that lives on a mounted AFP share rather than on my local hard drive, skedit 4.0b2 crashes. Problem doesn't occur on 3.6 release.
Sean Schertell on November 28, 2006 #Sean, if you've not already, could you please send the crash report via Trac, email, or the integrated bug reporter? Thanks.
Sean Kelly on November 28, 2006 #Why not just make the beta available via the user account page? Seems like that would save the trouble of having to dig through emails.
Ian Beck on December 2, 2006 #Ian: That's the eventual plan. At the moment though, I'd rather spend my coding time on skEdit…
Sean Kelly on December 2, 2006 #Matteo: The syntax highlighting is slightly improved, but most of the work in that area was making it extensible, so that support for new languages can easily be added.
Sean Kelly on December 4, 2006 #sean: great! I'm looking forward to put my hands on this new release. please count on me if you need one more beta tester.
Matteo Spinelli on December 5, 2006 #really looking forward to v4, i've never commented here and just wanted to say how much i love and depend on your application. i use it for all my coding and its the simplest, most straight forward, usable code editor i have ever used.
cheers. can't wait for the new features.
stuart trann on December 14, 2006 #Can anyone report if the beta has an actual "live" preview. I'm ready to purchase skedit, but I really need this feature built-in, not just "preview in browser". It really saves a lot of time not having to switch between applications. Any response will be appreciated. Thanks.
Shawn Blower on December 17, 2006 #skEdit v3.6.1 already has live preview. Preview in Browser > skEdit.
Sean Kelly on December 17, 2006 #I apologize. I suppose I should have mentioned the use of a window pane, instead of a separate window. As it is, you must go back and forth between windows and hit refresh to see the changes. I'm all about seeing the results as I type automatically. Saves time by not having to go back and search through code to where a mistake has occured.
Thanks for taking the time to respond to your blog comments. It's really appreciated.
Shawn Blower on December 18, 2006 #Could I get a beta copy please?
Best regards,
Kent
Kent Schnepp on December 28, 2006 #I would also love to get a beta copy. I've sent a request through the contact form but am not sure if it was received. Is Ruby/Rails support goodness baked into 4.0?
Marston on December 28, 2006 #I tend to cluster the beta requests and answer them altogether, so it may be a little while before you hear back. Ruby and Rails will be supported by default in v4.0.
Sean Kelly on December 28, 2006 #when is this version going to be released?
tim on January 16, 2007 #Tim:
It's hard to say - the time I have available for skEdit is quite variable, making predicting a schedule even more difficult than it normally is. However, I'm going to work hard to get it out in the next two-three months, but it might take longer.
